Šogad mūzikas tirgus piedzīvoja īpaši kolorītu un daudzkrāsainu muzikālo stilu paleti: sākot no garage rock revival Kings Of Leon, Jet, Strokes, The Kills u.tml., veterānu Deivida Bovija (David Bowie), Džona Keila (John Cale), Lū Rīa (Lou Reed) u.c. eksperimentiem un atgriešanos pie saknēm, 1990. gadu beigu pusaudžu popzvaigznīšu Džastina Timberleika (Justin Timberlake), Bejonsē (Beyonce), Kristinas un Britnijas izaugšanu līdz lielajām zvaigznēm, 1980. gadu estētikas klātbūtni gan popmūzikā (Madonna, Kylie ...) gan uz indie skatuves (The Rapture, Postal Service, Adult, Russian Futurists ...), hiphopa artistu dziļāku iegrimšanu lielummānijas purvā un galu galā beidzot ar 1970. un 80. gadu hārdroka atgriešanos The Darkness veidolā.

Mūzikā ir salīdzinoši grūti izcelt vērtīgākos un nozīmīgākos ierakstus, atšķirībā, piemēram, no sporta pasaules, kurā uzvar izveicīgākais, labākais, mūzika ir katra cilvēka individuālās gaumes, kritēriju un uztveres rādītājs. Šis tops ir tikai viena no n-tajām versijām, kas atspoguļo tikai nelielu daļu no 2003. gada muzikālajiem notikumiem. Tas izveidots balstoties uz līdzīgu topu pieredzi ārvalstu medijos, kā arī uz jaunāko muzikālo tendenču apzināšanu, neiegrimstot viena žanra robežās.
